The Hartford announced that it had extended its agreement to provide home and auto insurance products to members of the AARP (formerly the Association of American Retired Persons). The agreement would extend until January 1, 2023. The relationship between The Hartford and AARP which began in 1984 has spanned three decades.

The Hartford posted strong financial performance in the first quarter of 2013, according to their President and CEO Liam E. McGee. Its core earnings for the first quarter of this year increased by 7% to USD 456 million from USD 426 million in the same period last year. "We are pleased with the progress we are making with these businesses, as well as their outlook for profitable growth," McGee said in a press release.

AARP is one of the largest membership organizations in the US with 38 million members. Membership is open to those who are 50 years old and above. In exchange for a membership, members enjoy discounts on products like insurance, travel deals and others.
