GE  Healthcare Life Sciences would be building a modular biopharmaceutical factory for JHL Biotech. No financial details were disclosed about the deal but the KUBIo factory would be operational starting in 2015. It would be located in the Biolake Science Park in Wuhan, China.

GE Healthcare Life Sciences is the business unit of GE Healthcare. Meanwhile, JHL Biotech is a biopharmaceutical firm supported by various venture firms. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers China Fund, Burrill & Co, Sequoia Capital and China Development Industrial Bank were among the private equity firms that back JHL Biotech.

GE's KUBIo enables manufacturing firms like JHL Biotech to speed up the building of a bioprocessing facility. Once completed, the facility would have a floor space of 2,400 square meters and 2,000L of single-use bioreactors.

JHL Biotech President and CEO Racho Jordanov said KUBIo was the natural choice. "Utilizing manufacturing innovations was always a key part of our strategy and GE Healthcare's KUBio delivers the technologies we want, with the technical support and training we need," he added.
