A billionaire bought a bull for ZAR 40 million or USD 4.1 million. John Rupert, the richest person in South Africa, led a group that purchased Mystery, a Cape Buffalo bull. South African auctioneer Vleissentraal Marketing Manager Marinda van der Merwe told Bloomberg by phone that two men made the purchase in behalf of Rupert. Mystery had become the most expensive buffalo bought on record, the auctioneer said through email.

Andrien White said Mystery was no longer a mystery. White is the Marketing Manager for Thabo Tholo, an animal breeder and game reserve. The bull's horns measure 53 3/8 inches wide. Mystery could also weigh up to one metric ton. He said, "Obviously where he's going he's not going to be hunted, he'll be used as a breeding bull."

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index revealed Rupert's net worth is USD 8.8 billion. He is the Chairman of Cie. Financiere Richemont, the second largest luxury goods firm in the world.
