Miss America 2014 crowned the representative from New York as the new winner of the pageant held in Atlantic City. This was the second consecutive time that a contestant from the state was announced winner for the beauty pageant. Nina Davuluri was crowned winner in the nationally televised beauty contest.

Davuluri succeeded another Miss New York whose tenure was shortened when the pageant moved back to its home in Atlantic City after a six-year stint in Las Vegas. This was also where winners had been chosen last January including former Miss America from New York, Mallory Hagan.

Davaluri was the first winner of Indian descent in the pageant. She performed a classical Bollywood fusion dance during the talent competition.

The Miss America pageant had been a long standing competition that selects young women from 50 different states in the US. The competition awards scholarships to the winner in the institution of her choice. The pageant along with its affiliates is the biggest scholarship money provider in the US for young women.
