Maker Studios raised USD26 million for offshore expansion

Multichannel network Maker Studios raised another USD26 million in its recently concluded Series C funding. The seed round involved varied foreign investors. The conclusion of Series C funding would have Youtube network total funding from the round to USD61 million, and total overall funding to USD70 million.

Investors who participated in the latest seed funding round were Astro, Canal+, Northgate Capital, Singtel Innov8 and other existing investors. The funding round also saw investors Upfront Ventures, Time Warner Ventures, Greycroft Partners, Downey Ventures, FUEL: M+C, Daher Capital, Maker executive chairman Ynon Kreiz, Elisabeth Murdoch and producer Jon Landau.

The fund would be used to expand operations in Asia and Europe. It currently has offices in Los Angeles and presence in London. Maker executive chairman Kreiz said that most of its content were from outside the US at 80 different countries and it made sense to expand via strategies to increase content viewership and ad sales.

In December of last year before it has raised the first part of its Series C funding round, Maker clocked in 2 million uniqure views per month through its over 60,000 channels. The company has over 260 million subscribers.
