The top-seeded player didn't won the game easily. Pundits had said that her apparent number of misses made her vulnerable to Azarenka. Williams said, "When you're always trying to write history, or join history in my case, maybe you just get a little more nervous than you should. I got a little uptight."

She commended her opponent's fighting spirit after her winning the game. "I thought, 'This is outrageous that I'm still out here,' because I had had a great opportunity to win already."

Williams would be pocketing a record USD3.6 million. She would receive a USD1 million bonus for her US Open Series win plus her winnings for the US Open victory. She would be adding it to her Forbes' calculated June 2013 winnings of USD8.5 million and USD12 million worth of endorsements.
