Yahoo Inc. recently revealed its newly-overhauled logo. The last change Yahoo made was done 18 years ago. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer explained in a Tumblr post entry "Geeking Out on the Logo" that she spent a weekend during the summer helping with the redesign of the company's logo with its design team.

She wrote, "We hadn't updated our logo in 18 years. Our brand, as represented by the logo, has been valued at as much as ~$10 billion dollars. So, while it was time for a change, it's not something we could do lightly... We knew we wanted a logo that reflected Yahoo - whimsical, yet sophisticated. Modern and fresh, with a nod to our history. Having a human touch, personal. Proud."

The new logo was an uplifting point for the company. Yahoo has not been generating real money in ad sales as marketing dollars were flown to rivals Facebook Inc. and Google Inc.  Numerous reports had said that Mayer's business guy, Yahoo COO Henrique de Castro, might be out of the company by end of this year. De Castro was said to be let go by the end of this year because of lackluster ad sales.

Yahoo's stock rose about 80% primarily because of its 24% stake in Alibaba Holdings Group. Alibaba is prized by investors as it has emerged as one of the fastest growing Internet companies.
