Endo Health Solutions Inc. is a specialty pharmaceutical company manufacturing both generic and branded drugs. The company said that it would acquire Boca Pharmacal for USD225 million. Boca Pharmacal is a privately held company. The transaction would allow Endo to boost its generics business as two of its drugs would lapse patent exclusivity.

Endo had tried to get rid of non-core assets and boost profit through acquisitions. This comes as its top seller the pain relieving patch Lidoderm would be facing competition by September. The company's painkiller, Opana ER had also become vulnerable to competition from other cheaper copies. This was after the US Food and Drug Administration turned down Endo's petition to block copies of the drug.

Boca Pharmacal is based in Coral Springs, Florida. The company is a specialty generics firm that focuses on niche areas. These areas include semi-sold drugs, controlled substances and solutions. These are also the same areas which Endo said an "ideal fit" for the company's own generic business.
