New York Times readers were unable to access its website for about 2 hours earlier today.  The cause of the outage was not clear although a spokesperson for the company said they will investigate the matter which also caused problems for the paper's emails.

Fortunately for its subscribers and followers, they were immediately directed to the Times' Facebook page and particular Twitter accounts for the latest news and updates.  This follows the current trend among many people who prefer to read the electronic copy of the newspaper on its website or through digital apps on their smartphones and tablets.

To further capitalize on the situation, Twitter feed on its opinion section read, "Readers, don't fret. If remains down, we are ready to tweet op-eds and editorials in 140-character increments."

The outage was probably caused, "...as a result of an internal issue, which we expect to be resolved soon..." was twitted by the New York Times' communications department.  The paper previously experimented on a scheme to try to get more money from readers by launching a subscription model for its website and digital products.
