A report from Digitimes cited anonymous sources from the tech industry claimed that HTC would most likely "drift away" from Windows Phone. Analysts said HTC's move to reverse the company's current slide is a good idea.

HTC attained some traction in the smartphone market when it launched the Windows Phone 8X. There has also been recent speculation about the release of the company's newer Windows Phone. However, HTC was recently reported to be investing USD1 billion on its new Android phones. Its preference in investing Android-powered phones was said to be the company's way of entirely dumping the Windows Phone platform.

The Windows Phone market share of rival Nokia reached 80% during the second quarter. HTC's market share of the Windows Phone was only 5%. Hence, specializing on Google's operating system was said to be an excellent move for the smartphone maker.

During this year's second quarter, HTC posted a revenue of TWD70.7 billion. Its gross margin was 23.2%, while the company's operating margin was 1.5%. HTC's net profit was TWD1.25 billion while its earnings per share reached TWD1.50.
