China's biggest phone-network equipment manufacturer, Huawei Technologies Co, would offer the latest line of switches which could be upgraded like apps on a smartphone. Huawei would try to intensify its challenge to Cisco Systems Inc through the S12700 series of switches.

Huawei's switches could provide updates that are four times faster than hardware-based switches. Huawei's Enterprise Business Group's head, William Xu, said the switches would be internationally released in October. Xu expected a boost in Huawei's share through the new gear. The company only owns 2% of the market share for switches while Cisco reported a 58.8% share.

Huawei projected sales from the enterprise to rise to US$2.7 billion this year from 2012's US$1.8 billion. Xu added that the company wanted to increase its sales to US$10 billion by 2017.

"Products and solutions driven by innovation will sustain our growth and win recognition from customers," Xu stated. "If we are just followers, it's going to be hard for us to hit that target."
