A Reuters report regarding Alliant Techsystems, a defense firm, stated that the company is in advanced discussions to acquire Bushnell, an optics and hunting gear manufacturer. The deal for Bushnell, the report said, would amount to approximately US$1 billion.

The Reuters report, however, also stated the talks between the companies and MidOcean Partners, Bushnell's operators, is not final. There are chances that the talks could still break apart. MidOcean Partners has owned Bushnell for around six years. Bushnell manufactures a large selection of outdoor merchandise, including GPS devices, binoculars, rifle scopes, and other shooting and hunting products.

Representatives for ATK and MidOcean Partners were not available to comment on the report.

The New York Post previously released a report in June that MidOcean Partners had obtained three offers for Bushnell. These offers came from various firms, including the private equity firm KKR. Other companies that reportedly made an offer include a big outdoor and hunting product manufacturer.
