McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski is facing backlash across social media following his viral 'reluctant' taste test of their new super-sized menu item — a new burger, the 'Big Arch', which he oddly called a 'product'. The new burger was released in the US on Tuesday, 23 February. Here are the internet's thoughts about the taste test.

McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski, 'Reluctant' to Eat the 'Big Arch' Burger

In a video he posted on Instagram, Kempczinski is seen taste-testing their new burger. He captioned the video: 'The Big Arch might be my new go-to lunch order. Who else is counting down the days until it's in a store near you?'

However, what was supposed to be a promotional video showcasing how good the burger is, many noticed and pointed out that the CEO is 'reluctant' to eat his own food. He said that the product was something that they 'have tested already in Portugal, Germany, Canada' and that he 'love this product'.

He said, 'I love this product. It is so good. I'm going to do a tasting right now, but I'm going to eat this for my lunch, just so you know'.

'First, holy cow, God, that is a big burger. We've got a very unique kind of sesame, poppy sort of bun on it. We've got two quarter-pound patties, a delicious Big Arch sauce, and of course some lettuce. So, oh, there's so much going on with this,' the executive continued.

The CEO is visibly struggling to taste the burger, even saying 'I don't even know how to attack it. Got so much to it.' He then proceeded to bite the burger and showed his 'big bite' to the camera.

He said, 'Mmm, that is so good, that's a big bite for a Big Arch. It's distinctively McDonald's'. But many people pointed out that his bite is not 'big' at all.

'Only McDonald's could do this type of burger, but it also is unlike anything else on our menu. It's a delicious product,' he added.

Internet's Reaction to Chris Kempczinski's 'Reluctant' Taste Test

With the video going viral, netizens immediately jumped into action and expressed their thoughts on Kempczinski's video, with many ruthlessly mocking him.

One said, 'This was the most unnatural thing I've ever seen,' another added, 'Why does he look like he's scared to bite it?'

Another netizen called him out for calling their food 'product', they wrote on the comments: 'It scares me when you call food 'product'.

One commenter sarcastically wrote: 'What a delicious product my fellow humans!' Another added: 'What's the opposite of genuine and authentic?'

Meanwhile, the most liked instagram comment said, 'He def don't eat Mcdonals [sic]'.

To top it all off, the video has made its way on X with many user resharing the video, one wrote: 'Imagine making $18,000,000 a year as the McDonald's CEO... and still not being able to hide your disgust for your own "product"'.

This comment was echoed by another comment, saying, 'The CEO of a fast food giant looking visibly afraid of a Big Arch is the ultimate anti-marketing campaign; if the boss won't eat it, why should we?'

Another user replied to the post with a GIF of a famous cartoon character trying a burger for the first time. They wrote: 'It's giving squidward trying a krabby patty for the first time'.

According to the New York Post, the 'Big Arch' garnered a cult following across Canadian and European markets in 2024 and was eventually added to the permanent menu in the UK and Ireland.

However, with the 'reluctant' taste test going viral, the new burger doesn't appear poised to achieve the same kind of fandom in the US — echoing one netizen's comment that the video was 'bad PR'.
