China is urging for a fair and transparent approach as TikTok prepares to hand over its US operations, emphasizing the need for solutions that respect Chinese laws and balance the interests of all parties.
On Thursday, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce, He Yongqian, said the Chinese government hopes that relevant parties can reach a solution that complies with local regulations while ensuring stability for the company's operations abroad.
"It is hoped that the US side will work with China in the same direction, earnestly fulfill its corresponding commitments, provide a fair, open, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for the continuous and stable operation of Chinese enterprises in the US," He said during a press conference, Reuters reported.
The comments come shortly after ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, signed binding agreements to transfer control of the app's US operations to a group of investors, including Oracle.
This move represents a key step toward preventing a US ban on the popular short video platform and ending years of uncertainty over its future in the country.

China Urges Fair Treatment for TikTok
According to ChinaDaily, He Yongqian highlighted that the Chinese government expects all parties involved to act in a way that aligns with the broader consensus reached between China and the United States at the highest level.
He noted that economic and trade teams from both countries had previously agreed on a framework to address issues like TikTok through cooperation built on mutual respect and consultation.
"China hopes that the US will provide a fair, open, and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese businesses to operate continuously and stably in the United States,"
He added, emphasizing the importance of fostering stable and sustainable China-US economic relations.
TikTok's transition in the US comes amid ongoing concerns in Washington about data security and Chinese ownership of popular apps.
The company's new joint venture aims to separate US operations from ByteDance, ensuring compliance with US regulations while maintaining its massive user base.
Analysts say that a smooth and cooperative handover could not only protect TikTok's presence in the US but also strengthen trust between Chinese and American businesses.
