Costco and its supplier, F&F Fine Wines International Inc., have recalled nearly 940,000 bottles of Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG after reports of shattering bottles, posing a serious laceration risk to consumers.
The recall affects stores in 12 states, including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Federal regulators, through the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), warned that the prosecco bottles could break or shatter unexpectedly.
"The Prosecco bottles can break or shatter, posing a laceration hazard," the CPSC said in a Thursday announcement.
The agency confirmed that ten incidents of shattering have been reported, resulting in one injury.
According to CBS News, the affected bottles are sold in green glass with purple foil on the top and a purple label that reads, "Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG."
The Universal Product Code (UPC) for the recalled bottles is 196633883742, and the Costco item number is 1879870. Each bottle retailed for around $8 between April 2025 and August 2025.

CPSC Warns: Avoid Recalled Kirkland Prosecco
Consumers who purchased the prosecco are advised not to open the bottles. The CPSC recommended placing the bottles in paper towels or a plastic bag before discarding them.
Customers seeking a full refund can contact Ethica Wines, which does business as F&F Fine Wines International, by email at customercare@ethicawines.com or by phone at 786-810-7132, NBC News reported.
This is not the first recall for this product. In September 2025, Costco issued a similar warning, stating that unopened bottles could shatter even without handling.
At the time, the company did not specify whether any injuries had occurred, but the current recall confirms at least one laceration has resulted.
Made in Italy, the prosecco is a popular, affordable sparkling wine under Costco's Kirkland brand.
The recurring recalls have raised concerns among customers about the safety of the bottles, especially as the incidents could happen unexpectedly.
The CPSC emphasized that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bottles.
"Consumers should discard the recalled bottles in their household trash and contact Ethica Wines for instructions on how to obtain a full refund from Costco," the agency said.
