For over 20 years, Dr. Nidhi Pai has been helping patients achieve confident smiles at her cosmetic dentistry practices in Palo Alto and San Diego. Yet despite careful routines, she noticed a recurring challenge: even patients who brushed diligently often struggled to reach every surface effectively. That observation sparked a question that would shape the next chapter of her career—what if technology could make daily brushing more precise, consistent, and effortless?

Together with her co-founder, Akash Pai, a product innovator and technologist, Dr. Pai founded ZERObrush, a health technology startup developing the world's first fully automated, custom-fit oral cleaning device. Using advanced 3D printing and sonic technology, ZERObrush creates a precision-fit mouthpiece tailored to each user's unique dental anatomy. Unlike conventional toothbrushes, which rely on manual technique and often miss key surfaces, the device adapts to the contours of the mouth, delivering consistent, personalized cleaning across every tooth in a fraction of the time.

A New Approach to Oral Care

Traditional brushing techniques have remained largely unchanged for over a century, leaving some surfaces under-cleaned despite careful effort. ZERObrush addresses this limitation by automating the brushing process, applying optimal pressure and motion simultaneously to every tooth. "Despite diligent brushing, millions of people still miss critical areas," Dr. Pai explains. "By combining cutting-edge technology with personalized care, ZERObrush aims to make cleaning effortless, efficient, and far more effective than traditional methods."

Clinical and consumer testing have demonstrated the device's potential. ZERObrush can remove significantly more plaque and reach hard-to-clean areas, such as the backs of teeth and along the gumline, more effectively than manual brushing. Users also experienced improved gum health during the trial period, highlighting the promise of a technology-driven approach to daily oral hygiene. These findings suggest that ZERObrush could play an important role in preventing cavities, gum disease, and other long-term dental issues, particularly for individuals who struggle with consistent brushing.

Dr. Pai envisions ZERObrush as part of a broader movement to reimagine everyday wellness through technology. By combining decades of dental expertise with advanced engineering, the device has the potential to transform brushing from a routine chore into a precise, personalized experience—making oral care not only more effective but also more intuitive and engaging.

Through ZERObrush, Dr. Pai is proving that even the most familiar daily habits can be innovated—one tooth at a time. As the company prepares for its 2026 commercial launch, it stands poised to redefine how consumers approach oral health, blending clinical insight with technology to deliver cleaner, healthier smiles worldwide.
