Zingerman's Candy Manufactory has issued an urgent recall of two of its candy bars just days before Halloween after discovering undeclared allergens that could cause serious or potentially life-threatening reactions.

The Ann Arbor, Michigan–based company announced that select batches of its Peanut Butter Crush and Ca$hew Cow full-size bars may contain undeclared peanuts or cashews, according to a statement released by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday.

The recall affects Peanut Butter Crush bars sold in purple and yellow 2-ounce boxes and Ca$hew Cow bars sold in light blue and yellow 2-ounce boxes.

According to FoxBusiness, both products are marked with lot number 174250 and were distributed to retail stores in Michigan and New York.

According to the FDA, anyone with peanut or cashew allergies should avoid eating these products, as doing so could result in "serious or life-threatening allergic reactions."

Zingerman's traced the issue to a "temporary breakdown" in its production and packaging process, which led to the mix-up of ingredients and labels.

The company said corrective measures have already been taken to ensure the problem does not happen again.

"Steps have been taken to ensure this problem has been resolved," the FDA confirmed in its notice.

FDA Urges Return of Recalled Zingerman's Candy Bars

No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported so far, but officials are urging consumers who purchased the affected candy bars to return them for a full refund.

Customers with questions can contact Zingerman's Candy Manufactory at 877-632-9264, Today reported.

The recall is especially concerning given its timing — just days before Halloween, when candy consumption peaks nationwide.

Families are being advised to check candy labels carefully and to keep the recalled products away from anyone with nut allergies.

Zingerman's Candy Manufactory, a well-known Michigan confectioner, is popular for its handcrafted sweets and nostalgic-style candy bars.

However, undeclared allergens remain one of the leading causes of food recalls in the United States, and even small trace amounts of peanuts or cashews can trigger severe reactions in sensitive individuals.

Consumers can visit the FDA's official website for more information about the recall and guidance on safe product handling.
