The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a nationwide recall of Little Remedies® Honey Cough Syrup due to a potential health risk caused by bacterial contamination.

In a notice released Wednesday, the FDA announced that Medtech Products Inc. issued a recall after tests found Bacillus cereus bacteria in the syrup, which can cause foodborne illness and affect the product's shelf life.

The recalled syrup, packaged in 4-ounce amber bottles and sold in cartons with matching lot numbers, was available online and in stores across the US between December 14, 2022, and June 4, 2025, CBS News said.

If you purchased it during that time, be sure to check the packaging details carefully.

Recalled Lots:

Lot #0039 – Exp. 11/2025
Lot #0545 – Exp. 01/2026
Lot #0640 – Exp. 02/2026
Lot #0450 – Exp. 05/2026
Lot #1198 – Exp. 12/2026

No serious health issues have been reported so far, but the FDA urges consumers to stop using the product right away if they have one of these lot numbers.

Parents Urged to Check Little Remedies Syrup for Recall

Bacillus cereus can cause two types of illness. One type can lead to nausea and vomiting within six hours of exposure, while the other causes diarrhea and stomach cramps eight to sixteen hours later, DailyMail said .

Though most people recover quickly, the FDA warns that large amounts of this bacteria can cause serious health complications, especially for vulnerable individuals.

"Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term illness, exposure to high levels of foodborne B. cereus can cause death," the agency noted in the alert.

Customers who have experienced any symptoms after using the product should contact their healthcare provider.

The FDA is urging consumers to report any negative side effects through its MedWatch program.

Medtech Products Inc. is offering refunds for the recalled cough syrup. Concerned customers can reach the company by email at medicalaffairs@prestigebrands.com, through their website, or by calling (800) 754-8853.

Parents and caregivers who purchased this product are urged to check packaging immediately to avoid any potential health risks to children.
