Ontario-based Shopify reported its acquisition of leading design company Jet Cooper for an undisclosed amount on Thursday. Shopify shared that this newest transaction will help in the expansion of operations in Toronto as well as improving their firm's design and UX capabilities.

Shopify, which is headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, is currently backed by investors FirstMark Capital, Georgian Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners and Felicis Ventures. After expanding locations to Winnipeg, Montreal and Toronto, the world's fastest growing ecommerce company has continuously increased the number of its employees and is now on its way to 300 staff members by the end of 2013.

Founded in 2009, Jet Cooper had risen the ranks to becoming one of Canada's premiere design firms. The firm's creative designs were featured in brands such as Cineplex, TELUS, TEDxToronto, Kik and Sobeys.

"This acquisition brings in some of the best designers in the world," remarked Shopify Chief Executive Officer and founder Tobias Lütke. "Jet Cooper has been doing ground breaking design and UX work for some very notable brands and we're thrilled to have them join our team."
