Amazon Fulfillment Center Shooting in Ohio
The West Jefferson Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff's Office said authorities started receiving reports at 4:42 p.m. EDT regarding an incident at the Amazon CMH5 Fulfillment Center where shots were fired.
According to the police, there were no reported injuries at the center. The suspect, who was later identified as an Amazon employee, made a quick getaway in a vehicle.
West Jefferson Police Chief Brandon Smith said the suspect didn't go beyond the front area of the building, as reported by local station WKYC.
The individual involved in the incident, believed to be an employee of Amazon, passed away approximately two hours after an altercation with law enforcement in Columbus. It's unclear if the man was shot by a police officer.
The man allegedly shot and injured a police officer, who is currently in stable condition. There were no reported injuries at Amazon, according to Smith.
At approximately 6:25 p.m., bullet holes were discovered on the front entry and glass of the building. The shooter did not proceed beyond the front area.
News4SA reported that several agencies swiftly responded to the incident, and upon arrival, they observed employees being evacuated.
Gun Violence Reports at Amazon Facilities
Gun violence has unfortunately occurred at an Amazon facility in the past, and the Sunday shooting is another tragic instance of this. A shooting incident took place at an Amazon warehouse in Vacaville, California in January, where a 20-year-old man miraculously survived a single gunshot wound.
In August of last year, a news outlet in the area reported on the tragic incident that took place at an Amazon fulfillment center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The incident resulted in the loss of 19-year-old Javonte Moon's life due to a shooting.
There have been additional incidents of shootings, including some that resulted in fatalities, at various Amazon locations in Lakeville, Minnesota; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Chandler, Arizona, over the past few years, Business Insider reported.
