Regulators reportedly have taken action to prevent a Huawei Technologies lab from approving telecommunications equipment in the US. 

They have also proposed similar measures against other providers considered a national security risk, including several Chinese companies.

Regulators Blocks Huawei's Approval in US

According to chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has implemented measures to guarantee that unreliable sources do not compromise the certification of wireless devices for the US market.

The US government has implemented extensive measures across two presidential administrations to limit the operations of Chinese technology companies. 

Business Times reported that these measures include restrictions imposed by the FCC on Huawei and other Chinese telecommunications entities.

US officials claim that the companies may engage in espionage and data theft within the US, but Chinese officials have denied these allegations.

Wednesday's announcement pertains to the laboratories that the FCC depends on to ensure that equipment sold in the US adheres to technical standards, such as radiation limits and frequency use. 

Last week, the FCC denied participation in the program to a Huawei lab, providing no additional information.

The new proposal aims to permanently bar certain companies from participating in the equipment authorization program, citing national security concerns. 

According to the agency, the FCC and its national security partners will be equipped with the necessary tools to protect this crucial process.

In a statement, FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel emphasized the importance of ensuring that the agency's equipment authorization program and its administrators can address the ongoing and evolving security and supply chain threats.

"Huawei's accreditation as a lab was scheduled to expire on Tuesday, but the FCC rejected their request for an extension." Huawei has yet to respond to a request for comment.

FCC's Restrictions Against Telecom Companies

In November 2022, the FCC banned the approval of new telecommunications equipment from certain companies, including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera Communications Corp, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology, and Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co.

In 2022, the FCC included several companies in the covered list due to concerns about their potential impact on US national security. 

These additions were made by a 2019 law that aims to safeguard US communications networks.

In 2019, Huawei and Hikvision found themselves on a US export control list, which imposed restrictions on most US suppliers. 

According to Cyber News, these restrictions prevented them from shipping goods and technology to the companies unless they were granted licenses.
