Twitch is set to launch its new discovery feed, similar to TikTok, to all users this week, according to an announcement made by the company on Tuesday.

A new feature has been introduced in the Twitch iOS and Android apps, where viewers can now explore and discover new streamers by scrolling through bite-sized bits of content. The official launch comes after Twitch's previous trials of the feed that began in August 2023, according to Bloomberg.

Twitch Launches TikTok Rival

With this launch, Twitch has joined the ranks of many other popular apps that have introduced their own short-form video feeds in response to TikTok's surge in popularity. Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Uber Eats, and LinkedIn are just a few examples of these apps.

When it comes to Twitch, users usually visit the platform when they have ample time to enjoy a livestream. However, the new clips feed is specifically tailored for those moments when users only have a few minutes to spare.

To enhance your feed's personalization, you have the option to indicate your preferences by using the thumbs-up or thumbs-down button on a livestream or a clip. This helps determine the type of content you'd like to see more or less of.

Twitch's Additional Feature Aims to Expand Viewership

The arrival of the new feed is a response to the persistent requests from Twitch streamers for additional features that can assist them in expanding their viewership.

Given that Twitch operates differently from TikTok, streamers on Twitch have been limited in their options for gaining new viewers.

They typically rely on self-promotion on other platforms or collaborating with other streamers. Thanks to this innovative discovery feed, small and medium streamers now have the opportunity to expand their reach and connect with fresh audiences.

Twitch and TikTok have been drawing inspiration from each other's strategies for quite some time. In 2022, TikTok introduced a live subscription option, drawing similarities to Twitch's existing feature. TikTok's livestreaming product has made little impact on Twitch's market dominance.

According to a spokesperson from Twitch, streamers will not receive a portion of the ad revenue that appears on the Discovery Feed. This is because the commercials are shown between their clips rather than directly within them, Yahoo reported.
