Suburbs in many countries all over the world have been revolutionized by the 4G (4th generation) wireless technology. The latest city to have its internet connection upgraded was Wellington in New Zealand.

Vodafone, one of the global leaders in the information and telecommunications technology industry, opened the 4G network in parts of the New Zealand capital as well as other eastern suburbs.

The 4G internet technology is likened by consumers to a wide expressway, granting some of the fastest internet connectivity available. According to Vodafone, mobile connectivity is 10 times faster when using 4G than the usual 3G.

"Kiwis can download a book in less than a second; stream HD movies or download them in minutes, not hours; download an album in the time it takes for a single track on 3G; and quickly zoom around maps on a mobile or tablet," according to the company.

Vodafone New Zealand dominated the local market after buying TelstraClear for US$840 million last year. The acquisition ended the company's nine consecutive quarter loss after acquiring 19,000 customers. The company also experienced an increase in annual profit by 16% in one year which ended in March.
