AppleInsider reported a leaked photo of a "manufacturer's bin full of dozens of new plastic retail boxes in the size, shape, and style that one would expect to cradle the company's lower-cost handset, based on recent rumors".

"iPhone 5C" could be read from the plastic retail boxes' sides. The photo, if genuine, confirmed that the low-cost iPhone would come under the name "iPhone 5C".

In addition, AppleInsider suggested, "Apple could possibly adopt such a naming convention to distinguish the more affordable devices from the premium versions of the next iPhone largely rumored to adopt the name iPhone 5S".

The photo initially appeared at the WeiPhone forums. The forum previously produced other early peaks at devices from Apple. However, currently, Apple has yet to confirm, or deny, if the leaked photo was authentic.

Apple's iPhone was a popular product. In the second quarter of 2013, recorded sales for the product was up 20% percent year-over-year. The company was able to sell 37.4 million iPhones. Compared to the iPad and MacBook, the iPhone was the best-performing product Apple had under its belt. Because of its strong sales, the company posted revenue and profit at US$43.6 billion and US$9.5 billion, respectively.
