US-based online retailer Zulily has announced its closure, surprising its customers and hundreds of employees who will be laid off. According to the Associated Press, attempts to rescue the struggling business were unsuccessful.

"This decision was not easy nor was it entered into lightly. However, given the challenging business environment in which Zulily operated, and the corresponding financial instability, Zulily decided to take immediate and swift action," Ryan C. Baker, vice president at management consultant Douglas Wilson Companies, which handles the receivership for Zulily, said in a notice.

How Will Zulily Address Pending Orders?

The company, headquartered in Seattle, issued a notice on its website, expressing its efforts to fulfill all pending orders in the next two weeks. Zulily assured its customers that orders that could not be fulfilled would be canceled and refunded. The company provided a contact for those who needed assistance.

Instead of declaring bankruptcy, AP reported that Zulily uses an alternative for easing off the business known as an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors (ABC). The firm has transferred all its assets and business in trust to Zulily ABC, LLC, to pay creditors out of proceeds from selling them.

The company has also set up a hotline (888-202-5829 or +1-747-288-6406 outside the U.S.) for inquiries, along with an online portal (https://omniagentsolutions.com/ZulilyABC) for additional information and support.

Customers, vendors, and other parties can also send email inquiries to ZulilyCustomersABC@OmniAgnt.com and ZulilyABCInquiries@omniagnt.com.

"Zulily will strive to continue to provide everyone with the best service possible during the holiday season. We appreciate yourpatience as we move through this process as swiftly and efficiently as possible," the notice concluded.
