There has been a shift to mobile internet and two big technology firms were feeling its effects positively. The latest earnings from Facebook and Apple showed just how much they have benefited from the mobile internet shift.

Facebook's recent quarterly report showed how much the company has benefited from the mobile shift. The company reported earnings of US$331 million, with 41% coming from mobile ad revenues. The result of the positive report was a 30% rise in its shares.

Apple, on the other hand, also reported good numbers for its latest quarterly report. The company beat Wall Street estimates thanks to its strong smartphone sales. It reported profit of US$6.9 billion. Still, analysts wonder if the tech giant would be able to keep ahead of its rising competitors.

"Mobile is becoming the center of the information technology world," analyst Gerry Purdy of MobileTrax said. "Many companies launch with mobile and then figure out Web and desktop. Mobile is a lead rather than a follower," he added.
