Google announced Thursday that it discontinued its Netflix subscription promo for its new device, the Chromecast. The promo gave free three months Netflix subscription for every purchase of the device. The promotion lasted for only one day. It seemed there was "overwhelming demand" for the Chromecast-Netflix promo combo.

"Due to overwhelming demand for Chromecast devices since launch, the 3-month Netflix promotion (which was available in limited quantities) is no longer available," Google said in a statement as reported by LA Times.

"What that means, as far as I can tell after speaking to people at both companies: Google bought a fixed amount of Netflix subscriptions to bundle with its $35 Web TV gadget, and it sold out," Peter Kafka of AllThingsD said.

Netflix was an on-demand internet streaming media provider, with subscriptions available throughout North and South America, the Caribbean, and certain parts of Europe. It added 630,000 new subscribers in the second quarter. For the third quarter, it estimated between 700,000 and 2.5 million new subscribers in the third quarter, resulting in an estimated income between US$0.30 and US$0.56 per share.
