The technology industry is shifting faster towards mobile internet faster than expected. Tech titans have all acknowledged this fact, yet some of these companies could not catch up to the rest, analysts said.

Latest figures from the sector reveal that several companies were drastically affected by this massive shift. These companies included social networking giant Facebook, search engine titan Google, tech producer Microsoft and Apple, and online retailer Amazon.

According to Facebook's second quarter financial statement, the company benefited greatly from the shift to mobile computing. With a US$331 million revenue posted, the company said that 41% of those were gathered from advertisements targeted on the mobile platform. The company's shares increased by 30% after the earnings.

Microsoft went on an opposite direction. The shift caused terrible effects on the tech titan's flagship franchise - Windows. Its venture into the mobile computing market tanked with the Surface tablet charge. The company's profits registered at a dismal US$4.97 billion. Shares of the company dipped to over 11% after the earnings report.
