LGBT Voters Remains Solid Democrats

According to national exit polls, with just 5% of voters in the 2012 general election that are identified a members of the LGBT community, gays, lesbians and bisexual voters may comprise a relatively small share of the electorate of America. But they have been a solid Democratic constituency for a long time now and today, they are very open in expressing their overwhelmingly negative assessments for Donald Trump.

About eight out of ten rated Trump very coldly, including more than half (54%) who give him a score of 0. While only 9% of LGBT voters warmly rate Trump.

Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is regarded with a generally positively rating with 61% of the LGBT voters evaluating her warmly, in addition to the 36% who very warmly view her. Only three out of ten of the LGBT community rated the Democratic nominee with a cold rating, with 24% of which has given her a very cold rating.

The analysis is based on the data that is gathered by Pew Research Center's national representative American Trends Panel. The survey, which was conducted online from September 27 to October 10, covered among 4,132 adults, including 3,616 registered voters. Among these respondents, 167 are identified as a lesbian, gay or bisexual.

Compared to the previous elections, the presidential vote preferences among the LGBT community are basically consistent this year. Almost three quarters of the LGBT voter support Clinton while only 13% percent of them back Trump. 7%, on the other hand, back the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and 8% shows support for Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

As per the records of the national exit polls, about 76% of the LGBT voters voted for Barack Obama during the 2012 election, while 22% of which supported Mitt Romney. During the 2014 midterm exit polls, the LGBT community also had shown support for the Democratic candidates by the same margin.
