William Hill, a leading bookmaker, said "We are paying out a six figure sum to winning punters but the Royal Baby betting has been so popular that we have enough to get in a bottle of bubbly to wet the baby's head tonight."

The betting agency took a total of 45,000 bets for the baby name. For the name "George," the company had a total of 3,400 bets at 2/1 odds. Twenty-five of these bets involved three-figure amounts, with GBP500 as the biggest bet placed. In all, William Hill took an estimated GBP400,000. This was for various royal baby-related bets.

"The money keeps pouring in for the royal baby," Joe Crilly, William Hill's spokesman, told CNN. "At GBP350,000 we have already far exceeded the amount we were predicting we would take in," Crilly added.

In addition, CNN also reported that British bookies have raked in more than GBP1.2 million (around US$1.8 million) for bets on anything royal baby-related.
