Tequila industry expects to benefit with today's National Tequila Day

People around the world celebrate today's National Tequila Day. Different ways of having a good time with the drink was anticipated to transpire.

Tequila is a distilled beverage that originated from the city of Tequila in Mexico. It was primarily made from blue agave plant. Some places consider this day as a vital holiday hence, many people were expected to celebrate and enjoy responsibly.

As of January last year, there were about 1,234 established brands of Tequila and 145 tequila corporations. In 2001, only 26.5 million liters of tequila were sold. However, in 2011, a huge boost happened that resulted to sales of 155.3 million liters. Since 1995, the production of tequila became thrice as much.

Over the next five years, analysts expected that exportation of tequila to the US would increase by 80%. In 2011, USA became the top buyer of tequila. It imported 124,885,030.72 liters of the beverage. It was followed by Germany, Spain, France, Canada, Russia, Great Britain, Panama, Brazil and Japan.
