Facebook could potentially earn the ire of more users as they test out a new advertising unit today. The world's largest social networking site will be embedding mobile game ads directly inside a user's drop down notification tab, reports said.

The notification tab collates information on activities done by the user's friends. The new ad placement will appear above notifications which are comprised mostly of mobile game suggestions. These ad placements will be based on the current user's history of played games.

"We're always testing new channels to promote games," said a spokesperson for Facebook. "This is part of a small mobile distribution test we're running for game developers," he explained further.

Analysts believe that this new move is part of an aggressive advertising campaign by the web firm to enable content to the frontline. However, they also believe that this could create a negative experience to non-gamers.

According to marketing studies, ads currently placed on news feeds generate about 50% more clicks for a much lower cost. Studies show that companies who gain access to this new ad strategy save up to 45% in marketing fund.
