Insight Venture Partners today acquired Anaqua Inc. from Beacon Equity Partners. Anaqua, a provider of IP software, was launched by Beacon in 2005.

"Eight years ago, we recognized what Anaqua could one day become. I'm sure Anaqua will enjoy continued success in the years ahead, boosted by the wealth of talent and ideas within the company," said Ed Mullen, chair of Beacon Equity and former Anaqua head.

Beacon is a private equity company dedicated to software and IT service companies. It has extensive presence in Asia-Pacific, Germany, France, UK and Switzerland.

In a related story, Beacon also acquired SGA2 SAS, a French firm that is dedicated to patent annuity.

According to board member Chip Poli: "I would like to thank Ed Mullen, the former chairman of Anaqua and Beacon Equity, who had the vision to found Anaqua and acquire SGA2. Ed helped to guide the successful growth and evolution of both companies. I'd also like to congratulate SGA2 CEO, Gerard Borin, who built an exceptional company."
