NetApp Inc. announced that it has completed the acquisition of scale-out flash array maker SolidFire. Customer's have now access to the industry's broadest all-flash portfolio to meet their needs for speed, scale and data services.

SolidFire combines the performance and economics of all-flash storage with a web scale architecture. This radically simplifies data centre operations and enables rapid developments of new applications. According to CNN Money, SolidFire products will be incorporated into NetApp's Data Fabric strategy in sometime. This will enable delivering seamless data management across cloud resources, disk and flash.

SolidFire Principal Architect Jeremiah Dooley confirmed that SolidFire will remain a separate entity within the larger NetApp, with the existing field sales team reported the Forbes. Dooley said that, "Our staff and our customers were very happy to hear that all staff would be staying." He stated that the existing brand will be maintained for a time. Dooley speculates that, although not in the foreseeable future, it will probably be retired at some point.

As per the 'Safe Harbor' statement under U.S. Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995, the press release contains forward-looking statements within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. These statements include, but are not limited to, descriptions of NetApp's future strategy and its impact on customers and partners.

Actual results could differ materially due to a number of factors, including but not limited to: the response to the acquisition by the customers, employees, and strategic and business partners of both companies; the ability to retain key SolidFire and NetApp personnel; and NetApp's ability to realize its broader strategic and operating objectives. These and other equally important factors are described in reports and documents we file from time to time with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including the factors described under the section titled "Risk Factors" in our most recently submitted Annual Report on Form 10-K. We disclaim any obligation to update information contained in this press release whether as a result of new information, future events, or otherwise.

Forbes reported that, when Dooley spoke with NetApp CEO George Kurian, he said that SolidFire would remain a separate entity, headed by Dave Wright, then CEO of SolidFire. Dooley's interview is being used as a primer on the implications of the acquisition for internal staff. Also, for the fans of SolidFire socks, here is the good news to learn that new socks will be available from mid-February.
