Since its founding in 2010, Xiaomi is determined to be more than just a phone manufacturer. In 2013, Hugo Barra, VP of Android product in Google joined Xiaomi as its Vice President of International. His responsibilty is to increase Xiaomi product expansion to the world market.

In 2015, the company made a world-record for "the most mobile phones sold on a single online platform in 24 hours." On April 6, in its fifth birthday celebration, Xiaomi sold more than 2 million handsets in Mi.com, its customer-sales website in one day.

Although Redmi 3 is a very impressive phone, according to CNET , the prone is only available in China and Asian market only. Market in English speaking market must wait a little longer, in order to ensure phone comes with Google services installed. It is because just like most phone in China and its predecessor, Redmi 3 does not have Google apps installed.

Xiaomi runs with a different strategy from its competitors like Samsung and Apple. The company sees itself as an Internet and software company, more than a phone manufacturer. Therefore, its strategy is to lower the margin of phone sales to increase penetration of its service and software.
