Asiana Airlines announced that the airline company is suing the television station that reported bogus and 'racially offensive' names for the four pilots involved in the carrier's crash last week. The news program claimed that the pilots were "Sum Tim Wong", "Ho Lee Fuk", "Wi Tu Lo", and "Bang Ding Ow."

The airline claimed that the report, which was broadcasted on Friday, damaged the airline's reputation. The news program that showed the fake names was KTVU-TV.

American news programs have been in the media spotlight themselves due to erratic journalism. In the broadcasting industry, blunders in journalistic programs have traditionally lessened the viewership due to decreased confidence according to analysts.  Global news network CNN and Fox News both committed a factual error when the two news agencies mistakenly interpreted a decision by the Supreme Court on the Affordable Care Act.

KTVU-TV is based in Oakland, California. Tori Campbell mentioned the bogus names live during the broadcast of their news program, alongside graphics and visuals of the accident.

The San Francisco Bay Area show is an affiliate of the Fox Network, one of the major players in the United States' media and broadcasting industry.
