London-based Spotify Ltd is attempting to expand into the Asian markets as it competes with Pandora Media Inc to spread out internationally. The expansion was confirmed by the online music provider company's regional director, Sunita Kaur, in a Bloomberg report.

Kaur stated that Spotify has applied for licensing permits in a number of Asian countries yet she refused to identify which are these.

"The number one priority honestly is the market developments, the new market launches," Kaur, who joined Spotify last June, said. "The market roll out is led by our licensing, so we tend to launch in markets where we see we have a good enough library to go into."

In April, Spotify started operating in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. Its presence in Hong Kong is projected to be utilized as leverage in its bid to enter China, globally known to have the most Internet users than any country other than India.
