Desire2Learn Inc. decided to base its US operations in Boston. Desire2Learn Inc. is a Canadian company that assists schools and their teachers handle instructional material by using cloud data storage systems.

Last year, Desire2Learn acquired CAD$80 million in its first round of venture capital funding. The funding was the biggest investment in a Canadian computer software firm.

The firm first set foot in Boston when it decided to buy the mobile app developer Wiggio earlier this year. The company, currently, creates mobile and web platforms that college students and organizations can make use of to organize share files and calendars. The development will be incorporated in Desire2Learn's online Learning Suite, which will allow instructors to post grades and course materials.  The online Learning Suite can also be used by students to discuss assignments with other students and for them to take notes.

Desire2Learn will host its annual summit in Boston this year. The conference is expected to draw more than 1,000 of the company's clients.

"It's great to see Wiggio be turned onto the masses. We're going global, which is something we couldn't do as a small, independent company," explained Dana Lampert, cofounder of Desire2Learn.
