The midseason finale of Scandal Season 5 marked a controversial hour in television as it tackled the controversial issue of abortion. In an interview, series star Tony Goldwyn discussed how Fitz and Olivia will move forward after this major reveal. Planned Parenthood also released a statement following the historic hour.

The Nov. 19th installment of Scandal revealed that Olivia has made the tough decision to abort her baby with the president. The POTUS’ portrayer, Tony Goldwyn, shares his character’s mental state in a recent interview.

“I think it would be, next to the death of his son, the most gutting news he could get and frankly I don't know how he'd recover from that,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Goldwyn thinks that Olivia shattered Fitz’ dream in life and that is to have a child with her. Another thing that pains Fitz is the betrayal from Olivia’s end. However he understands that every woman is entitled to her own decision making.

“At the end of the day, it's her body and her right, but it's his child,” Goldwyn explains.

As to whether the hot couple can still come back from this major fallout, Goldwyn thinks that there’s still hope. He’s convinced that they really love each other no matter the odds.

“I think when people love each other as primally as these two people do, I think they can come back from anything,” he assured.

Moving forward, fans of Olitz will find the president in solitude. “Not only does he not have a partner, he's utterly alone,” the actor previewed.

In light of the controversial hour, Planned Parenthood released a statement via ET Online, applauding creator and showrunner Shonda Rhimes for bravely addressing the issue of abortion.

“Shonda Rhimes used her platform to tell the world that if Planned Parenthood lost funding for contraception counseling, STI testing, cancer screenings, and safe, legal abortion — millions of people would suffer,” the organization commented.

They praised Rhimes for proving that “when women are telling our stories, the world will pause and watch”.

On a lighter note, Tony Goldwyn recently spent Thanksgiving with his family. He shared a sweet photo on his Instagram account with a caption that reads: “Happy Thanksgiving from me and my girls!!! @amuskygoldwyn @tessmg36 #gratitude”.

Goldwyn is married to Jane Musky, a production designer in Hollywood. They married in 1987 and have been blessed with two beautiful daughters.

Scandal Season 5 Episode 10 returns Feb. 11, 2015 at 9:00 pm on ABC.
