The Argentine central bank said in a statement this week that "The 100-peso bills with the image of Maria Eva Duarte de Peron are legal tender and must be accepted by all retailers and financial institutions." This statement aimed to address the problem of businesses turning away the said commemorative bank notes.

The central bank even launched a hotline where people can report those businesses which refuse to accept the bills. Fines will be imposed upon those businesses who keep turning away these commemorative bank notes, added the central bank.

"The problem is mostly that people are not sure whether this is real money or not because the design is unfamiliar," said a cashier in Buenos Aires. This problem was caused by insufficient media coverage over the newly-minted notes. Of course, "There are always people who don't like Fernandez and Evita and just don't want to touch them," the anonymous cash register worker added.
