Active Power named its chairman of the board, Dr. Ake Almgren, as its new interim president and chief executive officer. Active Power manufactured uninterruptible power supply or UPS systems as well as modular infrastructure solutions.

Dr. Almgren would be succeeding Doug Milner. Milner submitted his resignation to pursue a new opportunity. His resignation as the company's president and CEO was effective July 29, 2013, while his resignation from the board of directors was effective July 8, 2013.

"We are disappointed with Doug's decision, but are confident we will identify a strong leader to succeed him," Dr. Almgren said. Dr. Almgren would start acting as the interim president and CEO on July 29, 2013.

Dr. Almgren has been a board member of Active Power since March 2004. He has been the board's chair since December 2012. Dr. Almgren was the CEO and President of International Battery from March 2009 to September 2011. Dr. Almgren has also served in various positions at ORKAS Inc., Capstone Turbine Corp., ASEA Brown Boveri Limited, and PJM Interconnect LLC.
