The largest telecommunications carrier in India, Bharti Airtel Ltd, has increased its shareholdings in wireless broadband venture established by Qualcomm Inc. This was confirmed through an announcement by the Indian firm.

Last year, Bharti Airtel had agreed to purchase a 49% in the 4G broadband venture in Qualcomm India. There was no mention as to how much it had paid for the additional 2% stake.

According to Bharti Airtel, there were four separate entities that formed part of the broadband venture that became subsidiaries after the said share increase was made.

In a statement, "Bharti Airtel has subscribed to an additional 2% equity share capital in all the four India BWA entities of Qualcomm AP. With this, all four entities are now subsidiaries of Bharti Airtel."

Because of the announcement, the share price of Bharti Airtel increased by 2.34% to INR 301.15 on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
