Microsoft CEO Said to Give Bates Mergers Role

Steve Ballmer, CEO for Microsoft Corp considered reorganization to put Skype president Tony Bates in charge of acquisitions and relationships with software developers. This was according to sources that were familiar with the matter.

Ballmer may also give Julie Larson-Green, Windows CEO, an oversight of hardware engineering for the entire company said sources. Steve Ballmer is expected to reveal the reorganization as early as next week. The said reorganization would align Microsoft's business units around devices and services said sources who wish not to be named as the plans were held private.

Microsoft struggled to gain share in mobile phones and tablets. It announced a shift in strategy last year to focus in computing devices and Internet-based services. The restructuring isn't finalized and Ballmer may still shuffle roles until officially announced said same sources. Don Mattrick was a contender for the Xbox post before he left the company and became CEO of Zynga Inc, announced July 1.
