Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc., a world leader in WiFi, partnered with Nigeria-based 3CNET to offer WiFi in Lagos and other major cities in the country, the company announced Wednesday.

3CNET purchased equipment from Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc. for the Metro fiber and wireless network it is currently creating in Lagos. Edgewater's WiFi3 Access Points would enable 3CNET to set up "a more cost effective network with higher quality service and better connectivity to the internet than competitors," said 3CNET CEO Jide Ipaye. This new development would enable the company to offer services and applications over WiFi to its major customers.

3CNET recognized the great demand for WiFi in the country, which has more than 32 million users accessing the internet via telecom GSM network only. According to Edgewater Wireless Systems Inc.'s Director of Customer Solutions Oliver Blackwell, "Nigeria is one of the hottest and fastest growing markets in Africa for WiFi right now and demand for connectivity to the internet and improved services via WiFi is a major catalyst for growth."
