US singer Taylor Swift performs on stage during a concert as part of her Eras World Tour in Sydney on February 23, 2024.

In a rare media appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, President Joe Biden humorously dubbed a potential 2024 endorsement by Taylor Swift as "classified." The unexpected entrance followed a suggestion by comedian Amy Poehler, who noted Biden's past appearances on Meyers's show during his vice presidency.

As Biden seeks alternative channels to connect with voters ahead of the presidential election, The Guardian reports that his avoidance of traditional interviews has drawn criticism, making this appearance significant.

Regarding a conspiracy theory circulating among conservatives about Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce aiding Democrats, Meyers quizzed Biden, who coyly responded with classified information, mentioning Swift's 2020 endorsement. "Where are you getting this information, it's classified."

Joe Biden On His Age and Issues

The president also addressed concerns about his age, juxtaposing himself with an unnamed counterpart's memory lapse, an apparent reference to Donald Trump's recent mix-up of names at a conservative event.

Biden emphasized the importance of the age of ideas over physical age, critiquing Trump and Republicans for advocating policy reversals on abortion and other issues. He condemned Trump's support for individuals involved in the Capitol insurrection, asserting that such actions are more characteristic of Eastern European countries than America.

Throughout the interview, Meyers, known for his jabs at Trump, maintained a critical tone, addressing a court ruling on in vitro fertilization treatment in Alabama and highlighting the importance of healthy criticism in a democracy.

Despite occasional jests, Meyers acknowledged Biden's ability to take a joke, emphasizing the role of satire in a democratic society.

"Criticising or mocking our leaders is a healthy thing in a democracy. I mean, Joe Biden seems to be able to take a joke. We here at Late Night make jokes about him all the time," said Seth Meyers during the Late Night Show.

For the Taylor Swift endorsement, it's uncertain if the pop star will speak up ahead of elections as she prepares for her consecutive Eras tour stops. However, democrats want to clarify that Swift spoke against Trump in 2020, and her feelings and views will never change.
