The French government on Tuesday approved IntercontinentalExchange Inc's takeover of stock market operator NYSE Euronext but urged French market players to step in to preserve Paris as a financial centre.
IntercontinentalExchange Inc's takeover of NYSE Euronext is complete and stock of the combined company will begin trading under the symbol ICE on Wednesday, said the head of ICE, an exchange and clearing house operator.

IntercontinentalExchange Inc Chief Executive Jeff Sprecher said on Tuesday that he expected the consolidation between his company and NYSE Euronext be completed within days.
Three NYSE Euronext executives, including Chief Financial Officer Michael Geltzeiler, would be leaving the exchange after the conclusion of its sale to IntercontinentalExchange Inc (ICE).
The merger of ICE-NYSE Euronext would not be subject to EU objection, according to individuals with knowledge of the matter.
