Healthcare.gov opens for windows shopping starting on Sunday. The updates allow the health care consumers to see the cost and benefits of insurance plans for 2016.

The Obama administration on Wednesday said that 7.3 million people have selected 2015 healthcare plans as of Jan. 23, through the federal insurance marketplace set up under the law known as Obamacare.

President Barack Obama's plan to extend private health coverage to the uninsured entered a new uncertain phase on Saturday as U.S. government-backed online insurance marketplaces opened their 2015 plans to millions of potential enrollees.

The U.S. administration on Monday dramatically cut expectations for 2015 Obamacare enrollment, saying it aims to have a total of 9.1 million people enrolled in government-backed federal and state health insurance marketplaces next year.

Todd Park, President Barack Obama's chief technology officer who played a role in fixing the flawed Healthcare.gov website, is moving to a new job recruiting top Silicon Valley talent to government, a source familiar with the situation said on Friday.

The Obama administration declared victory on Sunday in its effort to get HealthCare.gov working smoothly for the vast majority of users, saying the site had reached a goal of handling 50,000 simultaneous users after a five-week "tech surge."

The federal government is optimistic that it can get enough people to purchase health insurance. It is also testing an option whereby consumers can directly purchase insurance aside from going to the state websites since it is still malfunctioning.
