Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini on US Cellular has begun receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update earlier today through official over-the-air (OTA) release of the carrier in collaboration with the manufacturer. Before hitting the Android 6.0, Galaxy S5 Mini will get new features and improvements from the final Lollipop update.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with baseband number G800R4VXU1BOI1 is officially rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini on US Cellular, the first carrier in the US to release the update to the device. Galaxy S5 Mini on US Cellular made a jump from Android 5.0.1 to 5.1.1, skipping Lollipop's first maintenance release 5.1. Alongside new features and improvements, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will bring device security enhancements as well.
If prompted that update is already available, make sure to back up media files via an SD card, PC or any backup app to prevent losing files although the update will not wipe out data. Device shall be notified when connected to a Wi-Fi. Before proceeding with the installation, make sure the battery is charged up to at least 50% while storage has enough memory space.
To manually check for the update, go to Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for updates. Then follow onscreen instructions. The update is also downloadable via Samsung Kies.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will bring in Galaxy Apps auto install, reactivation lock, new Material Design, and Android security patches.
