Talisman Energy Inc., a Canadian oil and gas company is looking into possibly selling its shale assets in the Eagle Ford basin in south Texas. The company is hoping to raise as much as US$2 billion according to two sources said on Monday.

One of the sources added that Talisman is working with the Royal Bank of Canada to seek for interested parties. It has also looked out to other potential buyers that included private equity firms.

Talisman Energy Inc. declined to give statements regarding the said report. Royal Bank of Canada also refused to give comment.

Sources also asked not to be identified as the matter is confidential. They were cautious as it may not lead to sale given the talks were still at an early stage.

About 74,000 acres of land in the Eagle Ford is owned by Talisman. The company has a joint venture with Statoil ASA of Norway. Talisman produces 15 million of oil equivalent per day in 2012 according to its website.
