While Sony's flagship smartphones in Asia have been updated to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, news in the rumor mill today told that Xperia phones in the United States and in some other regions will also be receiving Lollipop's official over-the-air update. Expected phones to get the update includes Xperia Z4, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z and its variants.
Sony's mobile department has just released the first maintenance release of Android Lollipop earlier this month to both its high-end and mid-range smartphones. Qualified smartphones to get the next Lollipop version could be Xperia Z4, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia M2, Xperia M2 Aqua, Xperia C3, Xperia T2 Ultra, and more coming up.
The update shall come in stages. If prompted for the update, just click "Install now" and follow onscreen instructions. To manually check for updates, go to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates.
Before installing the Android 5.1.1 version, charge up the phone to at least 50% and make sure storage has enough memory space. Do not forget to back up files since the update will wipe out all data. The device must be connected to a Wi-Fi.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will bring in enhancements and security patches for the devices. Here's a quick rundown to 5.1.1 features:
